MISSION

Our goal is for children to learn about life by being involved in enriching, firsthand experiences. Play and exploration are the methods; appropriate and stimulating materials are the tools for learning at the preschool level.

Careful consideration is given to the curriculum in order to facilitate exploration and creative expression. Words and abstract concepts are given meaning through a variety of experiences before they emerge as symbols in reading, writing and mathematics.

We recognize that each child is unique and develops at his or her own pace. We foster each child’s development in all areas; social/emotional, cognitive and physical growth.

We want children to become independent, self-confident and curious learners who can work and play well with others.

We believe in creating a safe, anti-bias, nurturing learning environment for our students. We strive to engage and challenge each child, while also teaching them about responsibility, compassion and resilience.

We are a peanut and nut - free school.

CURRICULUM

We provide a program that is comprehensive and developmentally appropriate for each age group. We offer opportunities for play and active exploration within a clearly structured, challenging, non-competitive and nurturing environment. The children have opportunities to play in many varied areas of the classroom, such as blocks, manipulatives, art, sand and water.

Early literacy is an integral part of our program. The children are read to daily in both large and small groups which provides many opportunities to engage them in rich conversation.

The Science and Nature center is another integral part of our school. By nature, young children are curious. They tend to actively explore their social and physical world. The children like to ask questions and learn that there might be more than one answer to a question.

The Nursery School welcomes applicants from families of all backgrounds and cultures. We are a non sectarian nursery school. The application process begins in November. Please contact us to come and visit our school at 914 705 2736.
